Mama Caravana is an nomadic dance theatre project, born out of the encounter of three young mothers, dancer and performer ALENA DITTRICHOVÁ, visual and performance artist LILIAN ENDERS RIBEIRO and theatre designer YEON CHOI.
Imagine a dancing suitcase train, a crazy violinist, wild drums, floating fish, running cotton diapers, dialogue across 6 different languages and more! These are endless repertoires from the fresh minds of three international children artists and their mothers, all happening within interaction with the audience.
Mamacaravana is a nomadic improvisational dance theatre and arts project initiated by three mothers and their three toddlers. During a month-long journey by caravan from Lisbon to Prague, there will be free public rehearsals in public spaces in towns along the way in Spain, France, Switzerland, Slovenia, Austria and Czech Republic. Through interactive performances, the children will teach us the importance of play and adults will inspire the kids by dance moves, theatre props and music which eventually will harmonize to a beautiful authentic performance.
We provide improvisational theatre, art and dance workshops, installation and video art. Our audience includes babies, toddlers, parents, and artists. Mamacaravana is scheduled to perform on August 31th in LETNI LETNA Festival in Prague, Czech Republic.
We want to show the importance of genuine play of childhood, mediated by our creativity rather than a television set or computer. We invite parents to play with their children and embrace their eccentricity, rather than labeling them with a syndrome and numbing down their enthusiasm.
Through this journey, many new definitions could be built. Our views of the children as artists, new approach for art and parenting, the relationship between children and parents, different ways of traveling, new concept of education and more. This is a long term project as children grow, mothers also grow and our lives grow.
